Testimonials

"Just imagin: You're staying at Cleave in one of the comfortable character cottages, surrounded by green fields, almost in the middle of nowhere. But despite the remoteness you are not isolated: 200 yards to the West you see th sea - the rugged North Cornish coastline with high Cliffs and hidden little coves and green rolling hills to the horizon. To the other side of the cottage, a small winding, much overgrown, almost tunnel- like road takes you in five minutes (by car) to Crackington Haven, with a pub, two cafes, parking space, public toilets and - when the water is out - wonderful golden beaches with many tidal pools. Ideal for our children 20 years ago, when they were litte. When our boys were teenies, they spent hours and hours watching the waves: Framed by towering cliffs, at high water the bay is a surfers paradise. Later we watch the waves through the windows of the Coombe Barton Inn, over a pint of beer from the pool table.

Our boys now go their own way. We all have become older. But the cottages are younger than ever. Different from the old days, they have double glazing, central heating, fully equipped modern kitchens, and heated bathrooms. Ideal for elderly people who need to have it warm. We love the remoteness of the place. If we don't want to see anybody, we light a fire in the woodburner or enjoy the sun on a bench in front of the house, or walk into Bodmin Moore where you rarely meet another person, even at high season. Need to talk to somebody? Just drive to Crackington Haven, have a beer in the pub, a Cappuccino at the cafe. Or talk to your neighbours, your friendly hosts, the Zoeftig family. One of them is almost always around, when you need an onion, the address of a reliable repair shop - or just a little chat... Yes, they do understand even pidgeon English...

We've seen the world and still travel a lot. But once in a year it has to be Cornwall. Cleave, to be precise. You'll hardly find a better place on earth to relax...It has become our home from home."
